The Libyan woman who announced to international media that she was gang-raped by Gaddafi troupes has been deported back to her war-torn home.

The Gulf nation of Qatar has deported Iman al-Obeidi to rebel-run Benghazi.

Al-Obeidi drew global attention in March, when she ran into the Rixos hotel in Tripoli, screaming that she had been gang-raped by Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's soldiers at a checkpoint.

International media later spotted her in Tunisia and then Qatar.

A rebel spokesperson in Benghazi, Jalal el-Gallal told the Associated Press that the rape victim is welcome to stay, this is her country.

Amnesty International issued a statement saying that al-Obeidi's deportation from Qatar violates international law.

Al-Obeidi has successfully applied for status as a refugee under the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
