Lucasfilm and Disney are offering a fresh look at the “Star Wars” galaxy and lead character Rey’s temptation to the dark side in their new trailer from Disney's D23 Expo for “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

“The Rise of Skywalker,” directed by J.J. Abrams, has already been touted as the end of the Skywalker Saga, and the new trailer reflected that. The first half is full of iconic images and characters from the previous eight films, from Luke and Han meeting at Mos Eisley to Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon’s duel with Darth Maul. Everything really kicks into gear when it jumps to all new footage of “Episode IX.”

The new footage shows the variety of places the heroes and villains will be journeying to on this climactic adventure. Among these was the first on-screen appearance of newcomer Jannah, played by Naomi Ackie, sitting alongside Finn in a starship. Also among the sights was C-3P0 sporting ominous red eyes and a fleet of Imperial Star Destroyers in formation, seemingly ready for battle.

But the biggest tease offered in this new trailer is the sight of Rey sporting a very dark side-ish look, including dark robes and a dual-bladed lightsaber. This was also one of the biggest talking points coming out of D23, with theories already flying around online about what this could mean.

The new footage was first shown Saturday during Lucasfilm’s D23 presentation, which proved to be a show fairly packed with news.

Among the more notable pieces to come out was the first full trailer for “The Mandalorian” and that Ewan McGregor would be Obi-Wan Kenobi once again in a new Disney+ series.
