Kate Middleton and Prince William have been taking commercial flights even before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s “jet-gate” scandal.

Last week, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took a budget flight to Scotland with their three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The family spent the weekend with Queen Elizabeth II in Balmoral.

Many questioned the timing of the Cambridges’ move to take commercial flights because at present, Prince Harry and Markle are facing intense backlash for taking four private jet flights in 11 days. A number said that Prince William and Middleton were only doing it as a PR stunt, or to get even with the Sussexes after their “tactless jibe” against them.

However, many royal fans defended the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the online forum Quora. According to them, Prince William and Middleton have been taking commercial flights in the past.

According to Chris Smith, a former retired High School History teacher, Prince William and Middleton had known for weeks the exact days of their travel. So more likely, they already booked their flights some time ago and their decision to take a budget flight had nothing to with Prince Harry and Markle.

Jane Haylay added that the Cambridges usually fly with normal airlines and not using private jets on their holidays. Aaron Hughes also supported the same idea. He said that Prince William and Middleton have been using budget airlines for a long time.

“They have always used budget airlines for private get always and Royal Engagement to,” Millie Gaitanella wrote.

“They practice what they suggest to everyone else to consider when they travel. And kudos to the Duchess and Duke if Cambridge for trying to lead by example to their children.”

Leda Iaia shared many photos of Prince William and Middleton flying in commercial airlines prior to their flight to Balmoral. According to her, they also fly with British Airways for their holidays in Mustique and don’t use a private jet.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Mustique last month with their three kids. The family spent two weeks at Villa Antilles where they celebrated Prince George’s birthday.
