A man abducted a teen girl and killed her for rejecting his marriage proposal in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

According to local reports, the father of the 17-year-old unidentified girl filed a missing person complaint after she did not return from school Tuesday. The same night, the man was informed that the body of the missing girl was found in a forest region in the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu.

Investigation revealed that the accused, identified as 26-year-old Safar Shah, used to stalk and harass the girl. He had also morphed her photos. On Tuesday, the man stole a car from a service outlet and abducted the girl. He then killed her and drove her body to the forest region where he dumped it. Police found the accused in the car and questioned him. He confessed to the crime and took the officers to the place where he had dumped the body.

Speaking to local media, the girl’s father said the accused used to threaten the victim.

“He came to tell me that he wanted to marry her and we said no. She had told me that this man was harassing her and even raised death threats. She was very upset when he morphed her photos. She was scared he would kill her. I used to drop her and pick her up from school every day because of him,” he said. Meanwhile, the accused remained in custody as of Wednesday.
