Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) made a powerful statement in a Twitter thread Thursday when he called for someone in Russia to assassinate President Vladimir Putin over the invasion of Ukraine.

“Is there a Brutus in Russia?” Graham asked, wondering if there were any Russian higher-ups who would assassinate Putin.

Prominent Fox News Host Sean Hannity made similar remarks earlier this week on his podcast, “The Sean Hannity Show.”

Graham's comments came following news that the Kremlin was considering imposing martial law, which would make it harder for civilians to protest the current situation.

Many Russian people have wanted regime change for a while, with one of the more vocal people being opposition leader Alexi Navalny, who has survived both assassination attempts and prison in Russia. Strong resistance remains, especially now, but shows no signs of stopping Putin.

Russian Businessman and U.S.-based crypto investor Alex Konaykhin even put a $1 million bounty on Putin for his arrest for war crimes.

However, Graham maintained that while he was wondering if it was possible, it was something that would need to be done by a Russian.

“The only people who can fix this are the Russian people. Easy to say, hard to do . . . you need to step up to the plate,” Graham wrote.

Some people quickly pointed out that the statements Graham wrote were irresponsible for a sitting U.S. Senator to make, especially during a time of such a crisis and upheaval that the current situation has caused around the world.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also called for more Western support, and support from NATO, including a no-fly zone. However, while Western countries have made some important and costly sanctions against the Russian government, businesses, and officials, many of them are unwilling to use more aggressive measures.
