Bored of Netflix? Read on to find out how you can cope Pixabay

Have you been using Netflix less lately? You’re probably not the only one. The content on the well-known streaming platform can get boring, and with nothing much to do because of the COVID-19 pandemic, you may be getting frustrated. But be calm and read on, we have some treats for you to cope with this "Netflix fatigue."

Netflix has some great shows and it spends heavily to bring people onto its platform. Forbes pointed out that the streaming service was shelling out as much as $581 per new subscriber in 2019, but its revenue and subscriber growth was slowing down at the same time because of competition from other streaming services such as Amazon Prime, Disney Plus and Apple TV. Competition has forced Netflix to lose some great programs from its platform, too.

To be fair, Netflix has reclaimed some of its lost subscribers from last year because of the COVID-19 lockdowns. Still, users would do well to have some choice to themselves, especially those who love the classics.

Not all of us can pay for every streaming service, and Netflix’s own shift to more original content means you may lose your favorite shows to oblivion. But fret not, we have a few options for you so you can enjoy your TV shows and movies at your own time, without the hassle of having to wade through tons of content that you aren’t interested in or find inappropriate.

Here are a few things you can do.

Use a DVD service:

Let your movie come to you and keep it. These services give you the relief of not having to sign up for five different streaming services just to enjoy a few favorite titles. You own what you pay for and you have the freedom from buffering.

GRUV is a great online DVD store I use to buy my TV shows and movies. Having a hard copy of my favorite classics produced by Universal Studios helps me ensure that I can show them to my children and grandchildren, even if Netflix pulls them out of its platform. GRUV gives you 4K movies for as low as $12.99, which you can keep forever.

Similarly, GoPeachy offers quality products at great prices. This DVD service provides you and me with the best media buying experience. It grades each of its products so we know what we get will be top notch. I don’t use GoPeachy just to buy movies, it also has many video games that have helped keep me engaged and entertained throughout the lockdown.

Find a streaming service specific to your tastes and culture

If content such as “Cuties“ is not for you, your options among the streaming services are pretty limited, to be honest. Sex sells and the big corporations know it. If you want family-friendly content only, there are many services out there to serve just these needs.

Crossflix is one service my Christian friends love. This site comes with thousands of Christian films, documentaries and educational content. You can access the videos through its digital streaming network day or night. Completely family-friendly, Crossflix also lets you download your favorite shows and watch them later.

Get an online service like cable

Am I out of touch? Cable in the internet age? Yes, there are services still out there that combine the choice streaming services provide with the volume you get from cable. Such sites work by aggregating different stations into one package. Vontronix TV is by far the most popular among them and has over 4,000 channels in its bundle. You can even try the service on your Fire TV Stick or Apple TV before subscribing. At about $30 a month, it is probably the cheapest cable you will ever buy. For the volume it gives, you will not need to subscribe to any other streaming service at all.

With these options, you may never need Netflix again in your life. Lockdown or no lockdown, it’s always best to combat boredom by not sitting on our couches all day surfing streaming sites for movies. Go out whenever possible and try to have a normal life as you did. Streaming services may be around for some time yet, but we need not get sucked into them. Stay safe!
