Empire Season 2 Finale Synopsis
Laura (Jamila Velazquez) and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) are expected to get married in the Season 2 finale of “Empire.” Fox

When “Empire” Season 2, episode 17 came to an end, it looked like the Lyons may have lost a member of their family as Jamal was taken to the hospital after being shot. Fans will find out whether he survived in the Season 2 finale, and more of the decisions made by Lucious and Cookie in the past will come to light in episode 18, titled “Past Is Prologue.”

According to the finale synopsis, Jamal (Jussie Smollett) will live as he continues to recover in the hospital. However, the singer is going to “put the brakes on his music career as long as those closest to him continue the endless cycle of violence and fighting.” Before he was accidentally shot, Jamal discovered that Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) had a hand in the murder of Freda’s (Bre-Z) father, and he was planning to separate himself from his family.

While Jamal heals, Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) and Laura (Jamila Velazquez) will get married in the Season 2 finale. Because the Lyons appear unable to avoid drama, you can expect the family to be forced to deal with at least one problem at the ceremony. People associated with the elder Lyons’ past will show up at the wedding, and Cookie will have to figure out a way to protect her family. The episode 18 promotional video also teases that Lucious and Cookie might get remarried after he’s shown telling her that they’re “ride or die.”

People from the past won’t be the only ones posing threats to the Lyons. Cookie’s childhood friend Tariq (Morocco Omari) is now an FBI agent, and he’s looking to bring down Lucious. To make that happen, Tariq has brought in Anika (Grace Gealey) for questioning, and he wants her to snitch on Lucious. They’re going to want her to testify against him, which could put him back in prison.

The episode 18 promo video also shows Anika will have to deal with an angry Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) in the finale. Rhonda has discovered Anika was likely the person who pushed her down the stairs, and she is shown attacking her presumed assailant. Rhonda punches Anika in the face as the rest of the Lyon family attempts to break up the fight. Was Anika really the one who attacked Rhonda? Or will there be a twist?
