Prince Harry went against Prince Charles’ wishes when he started his first charity.

Just last month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s “Totem” at Royal Albert Hall in London in support of Prince Harry’s Sentebale foundation. Sentebale aims to help children and young people affected by HIV in African countries including Lesotho and Botswana.

However, according to Katie Nicholl in her book “Harry: Life, Loss and Love,” the Prince of Wales didn’t approve of Prince Harry’s decision to set up the said charity back in 2006.

“[It was] a small victory for Harry, seeing that the Prince of Wales had been set against his sons establishing their own charities until, in William’s case, he graduated, or in Harry’s, he completed his military training,” Nicholl wrote.

Prince Harry reportedly assured his dad that he could do both.

Meghan Markle’s husband set up the charity after visiting Lesotho and meeting Prince Seeiso, who also lost his mother, Queen Mahomato, at a young age. Both related the charity to their late mothers who also worked hard for the same cause.

“Sentebale means ‘forget-me-not’ in Sesotho, and it’s a way both me and Prince Seeiso can relate to our mothers, who were both working with orphaned children,” Prince Harry said about the charity. “Rather than aiming directly at AIDS itself, Sentebale is about the knock-on effect on the children.”

Last June, Prince Harry flew to Lesotho without Markle. The Duke of Sussex made a private visit to unveil a plaque at the new community hall that was donated by his charity.

Prince Seeiso said that they started the charity from zero and complimented his partner, Prince Harry, for his passion and vision.

In related news, Prince Charles was reportedly upset and worried by the decline of Prince Harry’s behavior and his poor academic performance in school when he was at Eton. According to Nicholl, Prince Harry got into a lot of trouble when he was just 16. He was caught drinking at Highgrove’s local pub and was even spotted smoking marijuana.

At present, Prince Harry is a changed man and will be a first-time dad soon. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their firstborn this spring.
