Prince William learned a lot of things from Princess Diana, but there’s one important lesson that he could never forget.

As an important member of the royal family, the Duke of Cambridge doesn’t get to enjoy as much as privacy as he might have wanted. Throughout the years, Prince William is also forced to interact with the media because of his royal duties.

When Princess Diana was still alive, she taught Prince William an important lesson when it comes to dealing with the press. Royal author Katie Nicholl said that Princess Diana told her eldest son to never say anything much during interviews.

In the book “Kate: The Future Queen,” Nicholl said that while Prince William was embarking on his gap year before studying at St. Andrew’s, an agreement between the palace and the press to leave Prince William alone has been put in place.

After his gap year, Prince William appeared in his first press conference, where he was able to manage the entire situation admirably.

“He had learned from his mother that saying too much could backfire badly, but he also knew he had to give the newspapers a line. The reporters got their story and pictures of the suntanned prince graced the pages the following morning,” Nicholl said.

Meanwhile, Prince William is not the only one that doesn’t like dealing with the press. His younger brother, Prince Harry, has also been wary of the media, especially after Princess Diana’s death.

Prince Harry’s dislike of the media heightened after it was revealed that the press hounded Meghan Markle two years ago when they started dating. In order to address the issue directly, Prince Harry released a statement urging the media to stop harassing his girlfriend.

“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm,” the statement read.
