Princess Diana’s family history became irrelevant to Queen Elizabeth II due to her controversial move.

According to Tom Bower in his book “Rebel Prince: the Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles,” Princess Diana’s “family history became irrelevant when the Queen’s hand was finally forced by Diana’s secret cooperation with Morton and her untruthful denials of that pact.”

Princess Diana’s roots could be traced back to 1478 while the Windsors only emerged from their previous name as Saxe-Coburgs in 1917. The royals were shocked when they learned about the biography because it was a “carapace of lies” amid their broken royal marriage.

Princess Diana portrayed Prince Charles as an “unloving and unfaithful father without a care for anyone except himself.”

According to Bower, a strong prime minister would have not tolerated the warfare between the Prince and Princess of Wales and would have halted the books and briefings because his duty was to reconcile the two and restore the public’s trust. Bower concluded that Prince Charles agreed with Queen Elizabeth II’s “insistence that he and Diana formally separate”.

Queen Mother was upset and “deeply shocked” when she learned about it. She detested Princess Diana for opening up about her rocky marriage to a biographer.

Queen Elizabeth II’s mother believed that it’s always a mistake for someone to talk about his or her marriage outside the family. She also regretted when Prince Charles discussed his private life in a wide-ranging series of interviews with Jonathan Dimbleby.

Months before the Prince and Princess of Wales announced their separation, there were already rumors that their marriage was on the rocks. When Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited South Korea, the couple couldn’t stop ignoring each other.

Upon arrival, Prince William and Prince Harry’s parents walked beside each other but didn’t look happy at all. James Whitaker, Mirror’s correspondent, said that the royal couple’s eyes never met, there was no physical contact and it’s as if they were strangers.

Photographer Arthur Edwards, who was also with the couple during the said trip, observed the same thing. According to him, Prince Charles and Princess Diana couldn’t bear each other’s company. They looked so miserable, so they were not surprised when the palace announced their separation after a month.
