Twitter exploded on Tuesday after a picture of Rep. Marco Rubio (R-Fl.) giving Ivanka Trump a stiff hug at a closed-door meeting about tax reform reached the internet. Both Rubio and Trump responded on their respective Twitter accounts by making "covfefe" and "fake news" jokes while Rubio made a faux threat for investigation.

"Based on review of evidence & my own recollection, have concluded no hug was even attempted & press covfefe of alleged failed hug is false," Rubio tweeted.

The Republican senator also tweeted an additional picture of the hug saying that the faces were blurred "for security purposes."

Ivanka Trump got in on the joke, saying that the reports of Rubio being a bad hugger were "fake news." She added that she has "no comment" but said she would have hugged him anyway.

The photo of the "failed" hug was taken Tuesday at a closed-door meeting in Washington D.C. where Ivanka and Rubio met to discuss “pro-family tax reform.” The photos were taken by an Associated Press congressional reporter with an iPhone, according to a report by New York Daily News.

When Twitter got ahold of the picture, the social media users went wild with sarcastic captions and funny references. Here are a couple highlights.

One of the tweets focused on Ivanka Trump's husband, Jared Kushner, who was recently videoed and photographed making a rare public speaking engagement. The picture was captioned with a funny reaction that he could have had to Rubio hugging his wife.

"Did you guys see that pic of sen Rubio trying to hug Ivanka? Lolz she's cold blooded bruh ," the caption read.
